Re: What is the ideal amount of flat bottom for a half pipe?

I know what your saying, I felt the same way when building our halfpipe. I built ours with an 8' flat section to begin with and it is 4' tall. After skating it, it felt way too fast coming off the first transition before hitting the next. You felt out of ...

Re: skeleton of half-pipe?

You can, but may need a few more closer together in the radius of your ramp. That's also recommend when using 2x6. That's where all the weight and down force hits the hardest and will get bouncy and lose speed if you do not have enough ribbing closer together.

skeleton of half-pipe?

I'm a poor college student and am want to build a mini half pipe as cheap as possible lol.
I have to make it an outdoor pipe so its going to be treated wood and the 2X4's are about $1.70 cheaper than the 2X6.
can i use 2X4's for framing instead of 2X6's or with that make it too weak?

Halfpipe Surafcing?

Thinking of building a half pipe 3 1/2ft high and 8ft wide but it's looking expensive to buy ply in the UK.

Just wondering if it would be okay to use MDF to surface it? I was thinking two sheets.. one 3/4 inch, one 3/8 inch. I would still make the transitions out of ply.

Any help is appreciated!
