Adhesive for Masonite

Postby pcd on Tue Oct 13, 2009 6:21 am

Does anyone have experience using construction adhesive to hold down masonite on halfpipes? With urethane coating on both plywood and masonite layers, I am thinking this would reduce the number of screws needed and help prevent water trapping under the seams.

Well, as it turns out this is not such a good idea. The adhesive tends to "wet" the absorbent back side of the masonite much as water does. This caused it to ripple and buckle after installation and the buckled areas don't adhere. The softened masonite is also much more prone to screws pulling through - all in all a disaster even with screws placed every 8" into each joist.
