Free 3' BMX Launch Ramp Plans
I found this great launch ramp tutorial made by pro ramp designer and bmx rider Nate Wessel, it is off of the video "Props - How to". I've decided to give some written instructions with more details on building this ramp that might be helpful, such as a materials list and cost of ramp.
| 8 pieces of 8' treated 2x6 | $48 |
| 1 piece treated 3/4" plywood (4' by 8') | $38 |
| 2 pieces untreated 3/8" plywood (4' by 8') | $24 |
Total Wood Cost: $110
Use 7 pieces of the 8' treated 2x6s to create 14 pieces that are each 3'10.5" long, they are cut 1.5" short of 4' because they go inside of the 3/4" plywood on the sides. 11 of these pieces are used on the transition. Now there are three left, one is put on the top to create the surface of the platform (top blue arrow in pic, I will refer to this piece as the platform 2x6), one is put on the top back of the ramp to support the platform surface piece (middle blue arrow), and one is put across the back of the ramp on the bottom (bottom blue arrow).
Take the last 2x6 to make two pieces that are 2'9", these pieces go vertical in back, which creates a support square of 2x6s in the back of the ramp. They are cut 3" short of 3' because they go inside of the platform 2x6 and the bottom 2x6. In the pic above these are the two red arrows.
The use of the rest of the materials should be pretty self explanatory, I do not include the plywood that is placed over the back of the ramp because it doesn't add that much stability and it would make the ramp cost $40 more. if you have scrap plywood, however, I would recommend adding this piece.
I will be adding more to this section later, possibly building the ramp at my house.
